The English artist Frederick Richard Lee (1798-1879) was born in Vleesch Band, South Africa. In addition to his solo work, he collaborated with Thomas Sidney Cooper and Sir Edwin Landseer to produce some of his most notable paintings. Lee would paint the landscapes with Cooper and Landseer adding animals.

Hardcover. Condition: Good. This copy of "Roads to Glory" by Richard Aldington (1892 - 1962), is a reprint issued by Books for Libraries Press as part of their 'Short Story Index Reprint Series'. The book is now Out of Print (OP). Richard Aldington was one of the main Imagist poets, and a novelist, biographer and literary critic. Married to Hilda Doolittle (HD) he was, for the greater part of his life at the center of English literature. He had many friends and associates among the noted literary elites of the day, including T. S. Eliot, D. H. Lawrence, Ezra Pound, W. B. Yeats, Lawrence Durrell, C. P. Snow, and of course Hilda Doolittle, whose poetry he championed. His influence on things literary was notable. In 1946 he was awarded the James Tait Black Memorial Prize. For an interesting read, and a greater understanding of Aldington, I suggest one read the Wikipedia article on him. ******************************************** Aldington fought in the First World War (WWI), was exposed to gas during the war, which experience - indeed the entire, stupendous imbroglio that marked that war - made a huge impact on him. The book here offered is a collection of stories and sketches that was originally issued in 1930. The stories, which were often flavored by his own experiences, are : Meditation on a German Grave; Victory; At All Costs; Deserter; Of Unsound Mind; Killed in Action; A Bundle of Letters; Booby Trap; Sacrifice Post; The Lads of the Village; Love for Love; The Case of Lieutenant Hall; Farewell to Memories. It s an excellent grouping of stories - quite satisfying. ******************************************* SERIES : Short Story Index Reprint Series / TITLE : Roads to Glory / AUTHOR : Richard Aldington (Born Edward Godfree Aldington ,1892 - 1963) / IMPRINT : Books For Libraries Press / PLACE : Freeport, New York / DATE : (1970) / EDITION : Reprint / STATUS : Out of Print - OP / PROVIDENCE : X - LIBRARY BOOK / DETAILS : Hardcover; 317 pages; approximately 4 7/8 x 7 3/4 ; light green cloth covered boards and spine; gilt lettering and dark green embellishment to spine; no dust-jacket issued **************************************** CONDITION GOOD ONLY This is an officially deaccessioned library book, with labels on the spine, stamped on front end-papers and final page.
