Early in his career he was a pioneer in radio broadcasting, and he established the first commercial radio station in Nova Scotia - CHNS - in 1926. He ran it until 1956 when he became vice-president of the Maritime Broadcasting Company. As an author and historian he was well-known locally for several books based on "Tales Told Under the Town Clock," a series of talks on CHNS Radio, Halifax, in the 1940s and 1950s.
