Laurenziano plut. 89 inf. 60, della fine del XIV secolo, che lo attribuisce a Bosone da Gubbio, è un'opera difficilmente classificabile all'interno del panorama della prosa trecentesca. "Romanzo storico" lo definì, non a torto, George F. Nott, suo primo editore: narra infatti le vicende di cinque baroni siciliani in fuga all'indomani dei Vespri del 1282. Ma la particolarità del testo si rivela soprattutto nel frequente ricorso da parte dell'autore a svariate fonti coeve, riprodotte quasi alla lettera, benché adattate per la diversa destinazione e rese a prima vista irriconoscibili: tra di esse spiccano alcuni volgarizzamenti toscani dal francese e dal latino, come i Fatti di Cesare, il volgarizzamento dell'"Historia destructionis Troiae" di Filippo Ceffi, o quello della prima Catilinaria attribuito a Brunetto Latini. Questa nuova edizione del testo, fondata sulla revisione del codice Laurenziano (ma che si giova anche della scoperta di un nuovo testimone parziale, contenente qualche lacerto rimaneggiato), è corredata da un ricco commento e accompagnata da un'introduzione e una nota al testo che analizzano nel dettaglio le fonti e gli aspetti stilistici, sintattici e linguistici del 'romanzo', soffermandosi inoltre sulla questione dell'attribuzione, tutt'altro che pacifica, e della datazione dell'opera.
