cat40a (illustrator). 12mo. [160]pp. Full contemporary calf, spine decorated and lettered in gilt. Marbled end papers. A very good copy, scattered foxing throughout. Published in English in 1739 as: "A philosophical amusement upon the language of beasts", this work was censured, and led to the author being imprisoned, then exiled from Paris for a time.
