160, 16 pages. Hardcover; H 16.25cm x L 10.75cm. Original light brown cloth bindings, pictorial stamped decoration of flowers and two children sitting on bench upon front board with floral elements wrapping around spine to rear board; gilt stamped title lettering upon front board remains bright; spine's gilt title lettering only modestly dulled but with left-edge letters blemished by strong soiling along left joint, additional silver flower stamping at spine center remains bright, slight fraying at spine head, light mottling to front board with stronger mottling to rear board. Some soiling to endpapers; antiquarian ink signature upon front free endpaper; mostly light but occasionally moderate scattered foxing to interior pages. Binding is firm. A very good- copy. Four full page b/w illustrations including frontispiece all by T.H. Collins. Features four short stories: "Among the Brigands" on pages 7-50, "Uncle Toby's Voyage on an Iceberg" on pages 51-104, "Adventure With a Wolf" on pages 105-138, and "Spectres and Smugglers" on pages 139-160. Book concludes with sixteen page section titled: "A Section from E.P. Dutton & Company's Catalogue of New & Approved Books for the Home and the Sunday School" and dated for 3/87. As no date is provided upon the title leaf, the March 1887 date of the Dutton catalogue seems to be the best indicator for the book's year of publication.
