Translated by Mr. Tho. Bowen, Mr. Savage, and others. (illustrator). Very Good (little wear covers with spines nice & bright; contents clean & tight). 12mo., brown full-calf leather; gilt tooled spines; marbled endpapers Seventh Edition, Revised & Corrected. With the personal bookplate of Edward Bensly on the front pastedown in each volume. Bensly [1863-1939] was an English scholar known for his meticulous research on 17th-century & 18th-century literature. Scarron [1610-1660,] was a French writer who contributed significantly to the development of three literary genres: the drama, the burlesque epic, and the novel. He is best known today for Le Roman comique (?The Comic Novel?) and as the first husband of Françoise d?Aubigné, marquise de Maintenon, the influential second wife of King Louis XIV.
