Paperback. Condition: New. Fred Bower had a full adventurous life and wrote about it in his own vivid and racy idiom. He was born in Boston, Mass. in 1871. Brought up in Liverpool, he recalls a city of two camps, when it was a common sight to see gory battles on St Patrick's day and July 12th. His travels and his work took him t…o Donara, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Guelph, Ithaca, London, Manchester, New York, Peapack (NJ), Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Titusville, Trenton, West Newton, not to mention time spent tramp steaming all the way to Australia and back. He combined the stonemason's craft with diverse activities: prospecting for gold, and working for the Labour Movement. His life the labour movement is interwoven with tales of Francisco Ferrer, Victor Grayson, Jim Larkin, Tom Mann, Philip Snowden and others. He tells you of that dreadful 'bloody Sunday' of 1911 in Liverpool and of his notorious DON'T SHOOT leaflet, inciting soldiers not to kill strikers. He left a secret message to posterity buried in the foundations of Liverpool Cathedral- a story that resurfaces in Liverpool papers. An autobiography of a Socialist, Syndicalist, Tramp, and Traveller. He died in 1942.

"The words on the opposite pag…e ["You never know when one kind act, or one word of encouragement can change a life forever." - Zig Zigler] were spoken by Zig Ziglar, and I couldn't agree more! I've seen the power of kindness and encouragement countless times; that's why I jumped at the chance to co-author this book with my friend, David McNally. I hope that reading a story about how kindness changed someone's life forever is enough to inspire you to offer your own encouragement. I think we all want to make a difference and there's no better way than to offer a shot of inspiration when someone really needs it. We're starting this book by sharing McNally's beautiful story, about a mother eagle, called The Push. To me, it captures the essence of what this little book is all about. Enjoy! To Life, Mac Anderson, Founder, Simple Truths." - from the Introduction.

Other books simpl…y show line drawings, but this massive encyclopedia educates collectors and researchers on what the marks actually look like on a piece of pottery or porcelain. Over 7,500 photographs of around 4,000 marks and items, from Abingdon to Zsolnay, are featured in this huge publication. Organized alphabetically by company, this book is the most user-friendly marks book you'll find, telling readers quickly what it looks like, when it was made, and who made it. Appraisers and dealers will find this guide extremely useful; they can learn a little bit about many different marks, rather than having to weed through extensive historical information on the thousands of marks produced. As an added feature, cross-referencing indexes are provided, by date, shape, and company. 2004 values." -Source: Publisher; ; Chad Lage is an appraiser of antiques, collectibles, and residential contents, and owner of Hidden Treasures Enterprises in Evansville, Indiana.
