L'operetta (attribuita al suo apparire alla penna del Cesarotti) fu data alle stampe primamente nel 1762. Scrisse di essa Cesare Cantù nel suo celebre libro L'Abate Parini e la Lombardia nel secolo passato (Milano, 1854): Bernardo Bozza di Monselice. nel 1762 stampò Il celebre altitonante conte Bacucco, orazione panegirica, contrafacendo il metodo barocco, le inette divisioni, il gonfio esporre, il cadenzato periodare, l'incongruente argomentare, l'accozzato e assurdo epitetare, l'abusato e ignorante citare degli oratori del suo tempo; libro più volte ristampato. e lodato molto; ma privo di quella finezza che forma il merito dell'ironia, e troppo abbandonato alle esagerazioni che son il campo della buffoneria. Il Bozza (Monselice, 1734-Padova, 1817), dopo alcuni incarichi nell'amministrazione del suo paese natio, si dedicò alla letteratura satirica e, dopo essere rimasto vedovo, abbracciò lo stato ecclesiastico. Fra gli altri suoi scritti: Il vecchio ammalato; Diverse opinioni de Medici. Graesse, I, 516. Melzi, II, p. 307: Questa satira, che prende di mira i difetti degli oratori del tempo in cui fu scritta, venne giudicata al suo comparire lavoro dell'abate Cesarotti. Sei edizioni ne furono eseguite, l'ultima delle quali, cioè quella di Padova 1821, sembra un rifacimento, tranne le divisioni e l'ordine delle parti che vi sono conservati.

Rilegato. Condition: ottimo. Volume in -4°, pp. 41, [3] Bella legatura in cartonato rivestito di carta decorata con dorso rinforzato. Sguardie in carta verde, frontespizio con marca tipografica. Bellissimo esemplare, completo e marginoso. In ottime condizioni. L'opera - scritta con l'incoraggiamento di monsignor Morosini vescovo di Verona - è una "spiritosissima parodia del falso genere di eloquenza allora più comunemente in voga in Italia" (G. Dandolo); essa uscì anonima ed ebbe un così grande successo, che venne attribuita a molti letterati famosi, tra cui lo stesso Cesarotti. La satira del Conte Bacucco evita il gusto pesante della caricatura personale e del motteggio tipico di tanta letteratura analoga di quel periodo; "né consiste il merito di questa orazione unicamente nelle stravaganze esteriori che ne costituiscono la parte satirica" (Necrologio.), ma l'opera riesce anche a dimostrare che l'autore non era uomo sprovveduto, anzi abbastanza colto e informato, oltre che brillante e spiritoso scrittore, capace di parodiare con intelligenza i caratteri più paradossali dello stile oratorio del tempo, tanto che, secondo le testimonianze dei contemporanei, lo stesso Cesarotti lo apprezzava molto. "Io preveggo assai bene, che qualche barbassoro letterario, appena gittati gli occhj su questo foglio, lo risguarderà come un ammasso di fanfaluche, e citerà con aria pedantesca l'Humano capiti, e l'Aegri somnia d'Orazio. Ma e chi non vede, quis non videt? che chi così parla cerca pretesti dalla calunnia per mascherar l'ignoranza? E vaglia il vero, che direbbero cotesti bacalari s'io facessi loro vedere, che il modello del mio stile vien dall'Egitto?"(tratto dalla dedica, in apertura al volume).
