Nicolaus (Nicolao) Clenardus (Cleynaerts or Clenard) Distemius Brabantus (Cle¿nard Clenardo (Diest, 5 December 1493 - Alhambra, Granada, 1542) was a Flemish Christian humanist, Grammarian, hebraist, hellenist and Belgian orientalist. He was educated at the Old University of Leuven, the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, the oldest Catholic university still in existence, founded in 1425, and he became professor of Latin there. He traveled to Spain in 1532, and after teaching Greek at Salamanca was invited to the Court of Portugal as tutor to Dom Henrique, brother of João III.
