Hardcover. Condition: New. Dust Jacket Condition: New. Brand new hardcover book! ; The ancient Hebrews did not believe that the temple concept originated in the time of Moses. Rather, they taught that temple rituals and doctrines originated with Adam and were handed down among the biblical patriarchs. This is precisely what the Prophet Joseph Smith tried to teach the world during the 1800s, that the gospel of Jesus Christ is eternal and has been on the earth since the beginning. This is the second volume of the Temple on Mount Zion series published by the Interpreter Foundation and Eborn Books. The purpose of the series is to increase understanding and appreciation of temple rituals and doctrines, and to encourage participation in the redeeming work of family history and temple worship. ; The Temple on Mount Zion Series; Vol. 2; 6" x 9"; 277 pages.

Image size ca. 130 x 190 mm. A two-line caption engraved at bottom in elegant handtooled open-face and italic types. Engraved Artist's and Engraver's signatures underneath image. Engraved Publisher's line below. The print is in its original state, trimmed and gilded on three sides. It is printed with warmer ink, somewhat more dramatic in mood, with fine, crisp detail, subtlety and elegance. In overall fine condition. (Few marginal spots.) Preserved in pH-balanced, acid-free Renaissance archival paper. ~ A delicately executed steel engraving, representing a major illustrative work on 19th century Palestine, Syria, and Asia Minor. William Henry Bartlett (born London, 1809) was one of the foremost illustrators of topography of his generation. He travelled extensively throughout Britain, the Americas, and the Middle East, producing his work on location. In 1854 he made his last trip to the Holy Land; he died of fever on board a French ship on his return voyage to England. Bartlett's primary concern was to extract the picturesque aspects of a place and render "lively impressions of actual sights", as he wrote in the preface to "The Nile Boat" (London, 1849). His work became widely known through the numerous engravings after the original drawings and paintings he made. The interest in these engravings today is as much for the exquisite quality of the rendering and presentation of the architecture of the period, as it is for the representation of the landscape. Published in 1836 by Peter Jackson, Late Fisher, Son & Co. of London, it was originally accompanied by descriptions written by John Carne. Clamshell.

Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. Agnes Valentine (nee Housman) (illustrator). UNIQUE PRIMARY SOURCE MATERIAL OF THE POET'S LANCASTRIAN ANCESTRY. An unusual hybrid of printed manuscript, line illustrations, additional manuscript annotations, and pasted-in passages and photographs, interleaved with loose material including a scrap from an ancient ledger showing house expenses, an original one penny post envelope addressed to Lune Bank in Lancaster (the home of Robert Housman, the poet's eighteenth century ancestor), and a lock of horsehair. The line illustrations are by Agnes Valentine (nee Housman). William Bradshaw Housman was a cousin of A.E. Housman whose image, cut from a newspaper, appears on an early page. It seems likely that the author produced this family history for his own interest as there is no record of it in the British Library Catalogue. With bookplate of J. Lawson Whalley mounted to front free endpaper (probably Captain Julian Lawson Whalley of the King's Own Royal Lancaster Regiment who was killed in the Great War). Octavo. Original red cloth boards lettered in gilt to front cover. Approx 60 pages unpaginated. Tissue guards throughout. Slight bubbling to cloth, minor spotting and offsetting to endpapers, a little sunning along spine and top edge of lower board. No other copies found on WorldCat etc, seemingly a one-off. Very good indeed.
