A photograph by Brainich & Leusink of the celebrated artwork by Thomas Brooks showing Grace Darling on the way to rescue survivors from the shipwrecked Forfarshire in 1838. Her daring rescue of the survivors brought her fame, and several portraits, including this one by Thomas Brooks, now held in the RNLI Grace Darling museum. 165 by 110mm (6½ by 4¼ inches). Blank to verso, slightly stained, but sound. The image itself is bright. Albumen photograph stuck to cardboard. 165 x 110 mm (6½ x 4¼ inches). Thomas Brooks. 18181892. Albumen print, or Albumen silver. The albumen print became popular because it produced a rich sharp image. The process involves coating a sheet of paper with albumen (egg white), making the paper's surface glossy and smooth. It is then coated in a solution of silver nitrate. It was popular from 1860-1890, and was often used to create Carte d'visite.
