Unbound. Condition: Near Fine. Gelatin silver photograph. Oval Image size 3" x 4.25" on larger card mount. Subject identified in pencil on verso as "Berta Brandon" in pencil. Light wear at the edges of the mount, near fine. Fill length portrait of a young (approximately 10 year old) African-American girl in immaculate white dres…s, with one hand on an elaborate wicker chair. Census records suggest she was born and lived in Halifax, Virginia in 1882, and her father was variously a day-laborer or miner. She married a farmer, Lanvill Hendren in 1906.
