The first edition of the work.Uncommon.With an errata sheet inserted loosely before the title page.With 12 vignette illustrations by famous European modern artists and friends of René Char such as Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, and Georges Braque. Includes a portrait of the poet by Alberto Giacometti (pp. 12). René Char was a French poet associated with the Surrealist movement which peaked in France during the first few decades of the twentieth century. Char was also a thoroughly committed member of the French Resistance, and refused to publish anything during the Occupation. This Bibliographie Des Oeuvres De René Char De 1928 À 1963 offers a precise catalogue of the works he had published by 1963. In the original publisher's binding. Externally, generally smart with age toning and the odd mark to the covers and spine. Bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities, as well as rubbing, heaviest to the joints, which has resulted in minor splitting to the tail of the cover's spine. Rear hinge strained. Internally, generally firmly bound with bright, clean pages. Very Good. book.

Georges Braque est né le 13 mai 1882 à Argenteuil. Pour fêter les 100 ans de sa naissance, Pierre André Benoit organise à Rivières, chez lui, le 13 mai 1982, une exposition que René Char visite en avant-première, la veille. Il imprime pour cette occasion, cette affiche, sobre, solennelle, pour rendre hommage à son fidèle collaborateur avec il commit tant de livres, aujourd'hui très prisé par les bibliophiles. Provenance : Bibliothèque personnelle de Pierre André Benoit à Rivières. Rarissime.

Full terracotta calf by Pierre-Lucien Martin with his signature in blind and dated 1962, front board with inset panel of polished wood incised with the contributors names, title to spine in blind, wood doublures and endpapers, matching wool-lined calf-backed card board chemise and matching slipcase. An excellent copy of this scarce book by PAB marking the friendship of the four contributors in a beautiful binding by Martin. From the edition limited to 21 copies, signed and numbered by PAB and with Lachaud's final photograph signed in pencil. The 8 photographs illustrate two aphorisms, the first 'Chemin faisant ainsi va l'amitié' by George Braque and the second 'Nous n'avons pas de souvenirs. / Nous en laissons.' by René Char. Four of the photographs are by Mariette Lachaud (portrait of George Braque and René Char, two portraits of Braque, and a view of Braque's atelier signed by Lachaud in pencil).
