Condition: Very good. First Edition. Scarce large-format inter-war picture book in the style of the Wiener Werkstatte, the pioneering Viennese modern design workshop. Austrian artist Ilse Breit was a student of Franz Cizek, a controversial figure in art education whose Arts and Crafts-style school in Vienna produced illustrators… of several striking picture books. Cizek wrote the introduction to this book, which is Number 3 in the WIENER JUGENDKUNST-BILDERBUCHER (Viennese Youth Art Picture Books) series. 10'' x 12.5''. Original cloth-backed color pictorial boards. Fantastic 1920s abstract endpapers. Illustrated by Breit with 6 full-page color plates. [16] pages. Light edgewear to boards, with some faint spotting and marginal staining. Leaves somewhat toned with a bit of foxing.
