Soft cover. Condition: Fine. A summary of the fossil history and evolution of this important group of bivalves, with a proposal for a new classification. Palaeontographica Americana Volume 8 Number 50. Well-illustrated.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the ecology of various invertebrate species in the central Appalachians during the Upper Ordovician period, approximately 440 million years ago. The author examines the distribution and abundance of species in different environments, including nearshore marine, offshore, and intertidal habitats. Through detailed descriptions of species and their fossilized remains, the book reconstructs ancient ecosystems and highlights the factors that influenced species diversity and distribution during this significant geological period. This work contributes to our understanding of the ecological dynamics and evolutionary history of marine life during the Paleozoic era. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. …

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the remarkable Upper Ordovician fossil assemblage preserved within the Reedsville Formation and its equivalent in Pennsylvania, USA, offering a comprehensive look at an early example of a clastic-facies invertebrate fauna with a distinctly modern aspect. The author, a paleoecologist, investigates the faunal communities and their geographic variation along a 600-mile-long shoreline, shedding light on environmental conditions and ecological interactions during this period. Through a systematic description of over 30 species most common in this assemblage, the author outlines twelve faunal provinces, each taxonomically distinct enough to aid in more detailed interpretations of the Late Ordovician species. By combining zoogeographic and autecological data, the author reconstructs the main environmental settings and associated faunas, identifying three fossil communities and seven multi-species populations that are further restricted geographically and stratigraphically, presumably reflecting more localized environmental conditions. This study not only provides a valuable resource for understanding the paleoecology of the Late Ordovician but also highlights the importance of recognizing faunal provinces to gain insights into the life habits of ancient organisms and reconstruct past environments. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
