The author argues that a weakened state of health prepares the system for the development of tuberculosis, as opposed to believing it is the initial cause. The author also posits that cold and moisture are the main drivers of the disease, with consumption being more frequent in regions where these elements are prevalent. The book emphasizes the importance of selecting the right climate for those suffering from consumption, with the goal of finding a balance that assists the body in healing without causing further harm. According to the author, a climate that is too sedative can hinder progress and ultimately do more harm than good. The book provides a comprehensive overview of the causes, treatments, and climatic considerations for consumption, offering valuable insights for those seeking a deeper understanding of the disease and its management. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

First Edition
Cloth. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. First Edition. 18 cm. 200 pages (including index) followed by five pages of "Popular Works Published by J. B. Lippincott & Co." and that followed by an ad for a St. Paul bookstore. Very good condition with three minor flaws: A charming list of the regulations of the "Elmira Famers' Club Library" tipped into the front pastedown ("Established 1871"), a minor chip to the front free end paper and fading to the spine. The Elmira Farmers' Club Library rules the only evidence of that library, whose members were apparently healthy enough not to take Dr. Mattocks' advice. A very nice copy of a rare book.
