57x38 cm. Double-sided document listing, in manuscript, the 11 crew members of the Brig Empire for a sailing from New York to Galveston, Texas. Decorative engravings at top of recto and verso. Light wear at edges, with some abrasion, weakness at previous folds. The rector lists the names of the crew, with two other names crossed out. The names, stations, age, height, wages and advance on payment are listed. The dates are in late September 1848. Printed on the recto are the terms of service. Two rules are in bold and larger typeface: No Profane Language Allowed on Board and No Grog Allowed. Printed on the verso are laws related to sailors. Below that are the names and signatures of the crew acknowledging receipt of pay at the end of the sailing upon the ship's return to New York in 1849.…
