Paperback. Condition: Very Good. 'Their existence was a meteor, which illuminated the age in which they flourished', Reverend G. Oliver, TEMPLE BRUER AND ITS KNIGHTS TEMPLAR, 1841 The Knights Templar was a military and religious order that dominated medieval Europe for nearly two hundred years until it was suppressed in the earl…y 1300s. The warrior monks then disappeared from history into myth, their true nature forgotten and woven into fantasy. But the traces they left behind on the land can still be seen, and, with a combination of stunning photography, historical imagery and detailed descriptions, this book provides not only a history of the Templars but also the first comprehensive survey of all the Templar sites in Britain. The author has researched and visited every site; he explains what there is to be seen, and the history and mythology behind it - as well as directions on how to get there. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged.

Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very Good. 8vo, 255pp, index, profusely illustrated in color and b&w. VG+ in VG dj. (The dj is not torn, that is part of the design). From the dj: "The Order of the Knights Templar was a military and religious brotherhood that dominated medieval Europe for nearly two hundred years until it was suppressed in… the early 1300s. It truly was a colossus of its age, the first uniformed standing army since the days of the Roman empire and, off the battlefield, the first truly multinational organization. Great landowners, industrialists and traders, the Knights also introduced banking - the linchpin of the modern world - to Europe. In a dazzling swift rise from the early twelfth century, they amassed huge wealth and exerted commensurate power, their leaders walking with kings and princes and enjoying the favour of popes. In less than two hundred years, they were gone. The warrior monks disappeared from history into myth, their true nature forgotten and woven into fantasy." The author became fascinated by the Knights at an early age and has meticulously researched and documented each of the key British sites associated with them. His photographs were included in the illustrated edition of THE DA VINCI CODE.

Hardbound. Condition: Very Good. Reprint Edition. Description: Profusely illustrated -- mostly in color. The publisher's blurb reads: ''The Order of the Knights Templar was a military and religious brotherhood that dominated medieval Europe for nearly two hundred years. Then the warrior monks disappeared from history into myth,…their true nature forgotten and woven into fantasy. New research has revealed the extent of its influence and thrown light on its last days. The material traces they left behind can still be seen -- from these much of their story can be read. Simon Brighton's lifelong interest in the Templars gives him a unique perspective -- over many years he has extensively researched and repeatedly visited the many sites in Britain, often uncovering Templar traces that had been overlooked. All along he has kept a meticulous photographic record. Brighton gives a clear visitor-friendly guide to each site.'' Originally published in 2008, this is a reprint. BINDNG/CONDITION: black binding with red spine text; a Fine book, with a Very Good+ dust jacket. site directions, bibliography, index. While only fifteen years old, published in 2010, both the dust cover and the exterior of this book look brand new. I have counted over several hundred photos, maps and drawings within the covers of this book, each pertaining to different sites throughout Britain. Many have individual descriptions to go with the photos. The Interior of the book is clear and easy to read. No pages are dogeared and no notes or handwriting can be found on any pages. The binding is very good to excellent. About the Author From the inside cover: With his intimate knowledge Simon Brighton gives a clear, visitor-friendly guide to each site, evoking the life and death of that most enigmatic body of men - the Knights Templar. Simon Brighton was born in London but brought up in Lincolnshire, in the shadow of Temple Bruer, one of the most important Templar sites in the country. He became fascinated by the Knights at an early age and has pursued that fascination ever since. Simon has meticulously researched and documented each of the key British sites and his photographs were included in the illustrated edition of The Da Vinci Code.
