Mrs. Washington dressed simply and was often mistaken for the family maid. The mop cap she wore, was fashionable in the late eighteenth century. The First Lady herself made the brown satin bag she is holding. It was embroidered with the inscription "Worn by Genl. G & Mrs. Washington." - from the Brinn's label attached to the Porcelite doll.
