Barnabè Brisson (1531-1591), giurista e diplomatico francese, fu tra i principali esponenti della scuola culta, protesta alla storicizzazione del diritto romano, visto come exemplum nell'ottica dello sviluppo di un vero e proprio diritto nazionale.
