[London]: Smeeton, Printer, [1833]. Rare (illustrator). [London]: Smeeton, Printer, [1833]. Rare. He Fatally Shot His Father's Servant - The Second Known Copy of George Smeeton's Account [Broadside]. [Trial]. Davis, George [d.1833], Defendant. The Trial of Geo: Davis, For the Wilful Murder of Thomas Cooper. [London]: Smeeton, Printer, [1833]. 10" x 7-1/4" broadside, text in single column below headline. Light toning, light foxing, soiling and very light creasing in places, a few small chips to left edge, which is neatly reinforced. $750. * Davis shot Cooper, one of his father's servants, and was apparently prepared to shoot himself as well until the police arrived and apprehended him. According to the arresting officer, Cooper claimed before his death that Davis had threatened him during an argument. Cooper's wounds proved fatal and Davis was tried and executed for murder. George Smeeton [1780-1847] was one of the best-known London publishers of trial pamphlets and broadsides in the early nineteenth century. This is a rare broadside.
