Pages are very bright with the odd small spot or handling mark and light age toning to the extremities. Further spotting to volume III, with the odd small crease to the foredge. The present copy probably belonged to the English politician and bibliophile Sir John Ingilby [1758-1815] of Ripley Castle, Yorkshire, who was created a Baronet in 1781. He was High Sheriff of Yorkshire from 1781-1782, a Member of the Parliament (for East Retford) from 1790-1796 and a Fellow of the Royal Society (elected 1793). The annotation to the rear free endpaper is a reference to Samuel Pegge's Curialia: Or an Historical Account of Some Branches of the Royal Household. &c. (1st ed. 1782).
