Old stains visible on the end papers front and back, with the text itself being clean. Frontispiece illustration from…the story, one additional plate, 290 clean pp., publisher's catalogue. A story of the Jews in Babylonian captivity, particularly of a young man named Naphtali. and his later return to Jerusalem. The story is filled with Bible verses and promises, and culminates in the promise of a Redeemer who will come to save His people.Emma Elizabeth Brown (1847-1937), b. Concord, NH; the daughter of a prominent bookseller and collector, John Frost Brown. Her father influenced her early love of books and literature, and encouraged her literary efforts. She contributed poetry and prose to various literary and religious magazines, including to the Atlantic Monthly and Littell's Living Age, and wrote books suitable for Sunday School and other reading. She also wrote biographies of Washington, Grant, Garfield, and Oliver Wendell Holmes. In addition, she was a noted watercolor artist; it is remembered that the demand for them exceeded their supply.
