Paperback. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. 1973 first edition, Department of Marine Resources Information, Texas A&M University (College Station, Texas), 8 1/2 x 11 inches tall paperbound in glossy printed covers with black cloth tape spine, copiously illustrated with black-and-white photigraphs, charts, graphs, maps and diagrams (some folding), viii, 124 pp. Slight soiling, rubbing and edgewear to covers. Date stamp (1974) to upper margin of front cover. Otherwise, a near fine copy - clean, bright and unmarked - of this scarce work. ~K~ [1.5P] Looks at micropaleontological and geological evidence for sea-level changes during the late Quaternary period (roughly the last 126,000 years). The authors analyzed foraminifera (single-celled organisms with shells) collected from drill cores at the West Flower Garden Bank in the Gulf of Mexico. Because different foraminifera species inhabit specific water depths and environments, changes in the fossil assemblages found in sediment layers indicate past environmental shifts. The study focuses on the West Flower Garden Bank, part of the Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary, which features the northernmost coral reefs in the Gulf of Mexico. The research intended to reconstruct past changes in sea level and environmental conditions at the site. These types of studies are crucial for understanding Earth's climate history.
