First Edition Signed
Softcover. Condition: New. First Edition. Uber-scarce in the trade, there being currently no copies available on-line in this state and condition, being brand-new, straight from the author-curator, and SIGNED by her at title page: "Vive le livre d'artiste!" She provides the Introduction, too, a fine rumination on the artists' books, considered "through history," "we inherently find that we have drawn, scratched, stamped, etched, embossed, calligraphed, painted, printed, and otherwise indelibly impress ourselves onto the page" (p. 6). Augmented with two dozen fine photographs printed on heavy paper, quite evocatively. Front covers made of heavy, illustrated card-stock. The first three are cut geometrically such that the first page carries the first word of the title, the second page, three words, the third page, four words, and the fourth page, being the first full page, containing all five words. Bilingual texts in French and English. Contributions by the curator-author and by Julie Baugnet, Sarah Bryant, Keri Miki-Lani Schroeder, Jillian Sico, Clemens-Tobias Lange and François Righi. The Colophon notes that this sumptuous exhibition catalog was designed by Camden Richards at Liminal Press + Bindery, and that Bill Morrison took the photographs of each of the artists? books. Translation of the original French into English by Nadia Translates and the French to English translation for François Righi?s essay was by Kate Deimling. At the author/curator's web-site is stated, "INGE'S WORK revolves around the idea of the book ? the book as object, artifact and cultural icon. She is focused on the r(evolutionary) nature of the book: in that it is both a technology and an artifact in constant evolution along with the people that interact with it. Inge makes artist's books, fine press publications, prints, and other text-based art that investigates our personal and collective relationship to the shifting role of the book, print media, and text in our world today. Inge has an avid interest in the history of the French livre d'artiste and the contemporary artist book in France. Inge is now living in Berkeley, CA where she is the Executive Director of the CODEX Foundation. She also teaches The Hand-Printed Book in its Historical Context at UC Berkeley in The Bancroft Library." [4], 5-82 [4] pp.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards.
