Hardback. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. First Thus. PEOPLE OF THE WETLANDS Bogs, Bodies and Lake Dwellers. Bryony & John Coles. Guild Publishing, London 1989 First Thus. 216pp Illustrated Hardback. This copy is in fine condition , there is a neat signature of ownership to the front paste down which is hidden by the dustwrapper front flap. The unclipped dustwrapper is also in fine condition. The world's wetlands are unique environments: from inland bogs and lakes to coastal marshes, they are rich, not just in wildlife but in human life and history as well. For thousands of years the wetlands, through their extraordinary preservative qualities, have kept intact ancient remains that would have perished on dry land. Estimates vary, but most would agree that the objects found on dry land sites might represent a mere 15% of a given communitys original 'material culture'. Wetland sites on the other hand reverse the statistics: some wetland sites might only lose 15% of what had originally been there. Lavishly illustrated throughout with 150 illustrations. Laid in is a cutting from the Times Literary Supplement dated January 19th 1990 with a review of this book. Ref M6.
