Inspired by his friend, poet Leslie Norris, Buchert began composing a poem a day, then directly setting the poems in type. Buchert writes: "Printing types are small ignots of an alloy of lead, tin and antimony. Each bears a symbol, such as a letter of the alphabet, raised or in relief, on one end. The type is assembled together by hand, character by character, in a wood or metal holder. The holder is referred to as a composing stock. The process of assembling the characters is known as composingÑthis is how I came to call my writing process 'composing while composing.'" Octavo. [32] pp. Six pochoir illustrations from original pastel drawings. Printed on light blue handmade paper. Quarter black silk over black paper boards, title in blind on front cover. A fine copy. One of sixty copies, signed by the author.
