This book details the process and results of several experiments that were conducted to study the interaction between propeller action and riverbeds. Conducted in two phases during 1910 and 1911, these experiments aimed to assess the feasibility of propeller-driven vessels operating on newly constructed sections of the Berlin-Stettin waterway. The author describes the experimental apparatus and methodology, and provides an overview of the numerous tests that were conducted in different configurations to measure how various factors influenced the impact of propeller wash on canal beds and banks. The research findings debunked the prevailing notion at the time that propeller action on riverbeds posed risks to canal integrity, demonstrating that by employing appropriate design principles, propeller-driven vessels could operate safely and effectively in the new waterways. This groundbreaking work established guidelines for the design and operation of propeller-driven vessels on canals, ensuring the preservation of newly constructed waterways while facilitating efficient and reliable transportation. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
