Two volumes. This set includes '1831 Volume I' and '1838 Volume II'.Illustrated with monochrome vignettes, and twenty-seven plates, including folding and colour plates, to 'Volume I'. Collated, lacking plate number XII depicting a map of the course of the Tweed. Eighteen plates, including folding and colour plates, to Volume II. Collated, complete.This set features two volumes from the Natural History Society of Northumberland, Durham and Newcastle. This early account of the transactions from the society provides a variety of articles on natural history, covering subjects such as the flora in Northumberland and Durham, methods of smelting lead ore, Lepidodendron Harcourtii, rare British birds and much more.Bound in half calf. Bound in half calf with cloth to the boards. Externally generally smart with fading to the spines and boards, marks to the boards, front joints starting to the tail of ' Volume I', rubbing to the joints, spine and extremities, with cracking to the spines. Bookseller's label to the front pastedown to 'Volume I'. Internally generally firmly bound with light spotting throughout 'Volume II' and to the front and rear to 'Volume I'. Pages generally bright. Fading to wrappers. The pamphlet without wrappers (Buddle, "Aborigines of New Zealand" 1851) was not issued with wrappers (see Bagnall 739: "Cover-title"). "Aborigines of New Zealand" with dampstain to title leaf. The John White pamphlets "Maori Superstitions" 1856 as an inscription by the author, but without the author's signature. The inscription is hard to red: "[?] With kind regards from [?] [?] of the author". ; Bound volume of 5 pamphlets, all first editions.
