's-Gravenhage, Martinus Nijhoff, 1923. 8vo (23.1 x 15.7 cm). Title in red and black. xxiv, 272 pp.; two text figures. Contemporary quarter black buckram over pictorial batik boards. Spine with burgundy morocco label with gilt title. = A definitely rare work, published by the same publisher as of the Linschoten Vereeniging, and much similar to the latter's publications, although somewhat more luxurious. The unique batik cover is wonderful and very apt. The illustrations include an early 17th-century sketch map of Bantam at the western end of Java, near Krakatao, and a facsimile of Buijsero's autograph. The editor, Jan Willem IJzerman (1851-1932) was an engineer, and chairman of the Koninklijk Nederlands Aardrijkskundig Genootschap (Royal Netherlands Geographical Society), and an ardent supporter of the preservation of the Borobudur and other Buddhist temples on Java. Old stamp on title, otherwise a very good, clean copy.
