Sil en avait eu la force, il serait allé voir au Grand Palais l'exposition du Centenaire de lart du XIXe siècle et aurait tenté « une conclusion à ce [quil a] écrit sur lart du XIXe siècle ». Pour lheure, il circule dans sa maison « au milieu dimages étonnamment belles qui se rapprochent le plus possible de leffet des originaux » (la maison Braun à Dornach en Alsace était connue pour son encyclopédie de reproduction de nombreuses uvres dart de musées et de collections privées). Il va lui demander « la photographie du ravitaillement de Paris de Puvis constatant officiellement les changements nombreux que jai obtenus de lui » (il sagit de la peinture Sainte Geneviève ravitaille Paris assiégé par les Huns d'Attila, 1898, au Panthéon). Jules Buisson a trouvé dans ses cartons « un Chennevières du temps des expositions de Nieuwerkerke, un Chennevières droit et triomphant, vivant comme la vie-même. Il est dessiné à la plume sur deux morceaux de bandes collés tenant des deux mains sa jambe gauche relevée sur le genou droit Cest un revenant de notre ami ». Philippe de Chennevières (1820-1899), fut un proche collaborateur d'Émilien de Nieuwerkerke, sculpteur, collectionneur d'art et surtout le tout puissant surintendant des musées impériaux. Dans la seconde lettre datée du 8 mars, il remet un rendez-vous au Louvre avec Gaston Braun et le peintre Jean-Jacques Henner, lui soumet une étude quil a envoyée à la Gazette, aurait aimé, sil navait pas été confiné dans sa chambre à Paris, sortir pour voir une uvre.
