Hardcover. Condition: new. Hardcover. R.W. Bullard was the first British Consul General in post-revolutionary Russia. Although broadly sympathetic to the aims of the revolution (he was the son of a dock worker and described himself as a former "rebel and socialist"), he was unable to ignore the evidence of his own eyes. He recor…ded his experiences and impressions in a secret diary, some of which was written in code. Published for the first time, this diary paints a picture of Russia, its politics and people in the critical years when Stalin was tightening his grip on power. According to Richard Ollard reviewing this book for the Spectator this book should qualify for the Book of the Year. It fulfils the highest criteria of a diary in that great and terrifying perceptions are conveyed on the same level as immediate reactions to everyday life. Bullard saw the Soviet regime as a cruel and brutal tyranny. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.
