A group of 20 color lithographs housed in a half linen portfolio with hand-decorated hard boards. Lithographs with the subject 'Maschere' (Masquerades), are from artworks by L. O. Burnacini (1636-1707). The Italian artist, architect, stage & costume designer was employed by the Imperial court in Vienna. Each lithographic plate is matted, with the publisher's colophon blind stamp at foot of each. See all photos. Full title translation of the series: 'Monuments of the Theater. Staging, Decoration, Costume of the Theater and the Great Festivals of all Times / 1st Portfolio'. Works are based on originals in the collection of the Austrian National Library (The Albertina), and related collections. Very good condition with a few scratches to boards of porfolio, and some soiling of linen at sides. Lithographs inside are near fine. Published in an edition of 300 sets. This set is missing its explanatory insert in German, describing each lithograph, and the limitation information for the edition. *Please note: an incorrect text booklet was found with this folio, one from the same general series, but with works by another artist, named A. D. Bertoli. It belongs to the 3rd Porfolio in the series.

(4877) Coppia di incisioni altamente rappresentative del gusto dell'Augsburger Barock, in cui confluivano componenti diverse, dal Sud, dal Centro e dall'Est Europeo, in una felice mescolanza che si espresse nelle vedute ottiche, nelle scene teatrali, nell'ornamentazione e nell'architettura. Queste due scene teatrali, ispirate all'epopea della guerra di Troia, sono concepite da Lodovico Burnacini (1636-1707), il grande scenografo e architetto italiano che, vissuto a Vienna dopo la metà del XVII sec. insieme col padre Giovanni (16.-1655), influenzò profondamente il gusto dell'epoca nella produzione di scene e costumi per opere e balli, e di macchine teatrali.
