Two typed signed letters loosely inserted from Dick (possibly Kohlhaas) to his parents. The first dated September 21, 1951 addressed to 'Dear Mommer and Popper' consists of about 425 words plus a couple of additional handwritten messages overleaf. He describes registration, gives his placement exams results lists the subjects he has signed up to, 'I was very disappointed that I couldn't take German, but the number of hours would have been far in excess of the limit.' He says he has a tennis match and that they have had snow (he imagines the court will be dry enough for playing) and has seen the film of Captain Horatio Blowhorner [sic]'. The second letter is incomplete undated and with no recipient (obviously his parents) consisting of about 670 words plus a few handwritten postscripts in which he sings the praises of Mrs Lockwood, the Rocky Mountain Champion Woman athlete, an outstanding tennis player who was on the U.S.A.A.U. Women's basketball team that toured South America. He mentions Ronnie Ferrari (who is featured in the publication) and discusses coming home for a visit, 'I am very homesick.' He goes on to say he has taken up mountaineering and rock climbing and lists his expenses. He ends with 'Who is this "Mother" that's sending me letters? I only know "Ma" and "Mom."' Highland High School, Albuquerque was built in 1949 expanding with an east and a west wing in the 1950s. The school's mascot was Herbie the Hornet, named after a naval ship, the USS Hornet. Other material loosely inserted concerning the Reunion to be held in 2001. Very good. Very good.
