About the book (from the dust jacket) Thousands of "Commandos' all over the country will recognize kindred spirits in this "Unit." From the Captain. Red, through Lieutenants Jimmy and Kit and Fatty, to the youngest and smallest Banty, they are all as real as the boy next door. They live in southern New Jersey in a small community near a tidal river that gives them swimming, fishing, crabbing, and various kinds of boats, while the country has interesting pine barrens with more than enough blueberries, abandoned logging roads, a deserted shack, and a mysterious stranger. The Commandos' first raid was staged in a neighbor's back yard and was unfortunately wound up with the neighbor's washing, just hung out on the line. Later raids were, of necessity, farther afield but that made for more use of the river and the woods and finally a forest fire in which the boys gave a very good account of themselves. It all adds up to a busy and most entertaining summer. Busoni, Rafello (illustrator).
