Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st Edition. A near fine copy, in a good dust jacket, of the first edition. The blue cloth binding is clean and unworn, with strong black lettering to the spine. Everything is tight and square, with unbumped edges and corners. The contents are clean and bright, and other than a neat ink signature to the title page, there are no ownership inscriptions or other markings of any kind. The striking, and extremely scarce, dust jacket is unclipped (10/6), but has suffered ragged losses along the top of the spine and front face, as well as a piece to the bottom of the spine. Additional lesser edgewear and a couple of closed tears. It has been reinforced with clear tape, and is now protected in a removable mylar cover. For all the faults, it is substantially intact. Please examine the associated images. From the blurb: "The author of this challenging novel is a South African who has chosen a tangled pattern of social and gold mining intrigues as his theme. He knows the mysterious Lake Nyasa, the diamond diggings, the mellow and gracious valley of Constantia as intimately as the glitter of the Rand. The book is very provocative, yet every line is written with an intense understanding of the South African way of life".
