Stranamente trascurato dalla storiografia sull'ebraismo, Corcos si muoveva a…bilmente tra le relazioni intrecciate con membri illustri della politica e della cultura romana e italiana - papi compresi -, e quelle con le comunità ebraiche europee, che si rivolgevano a lui come a una indiscutibile autorità. Il personaggio, la vita e le opere di Corcos rinviano a una serie di tematiche storiografiche che illumina il contesto storico-culturale, non solo ebraico, dell'Italia e dell'Europa tra XVII e XVIII secolo e chiarisce quale fu la natura, essenzialmente negoziale, dei rapporti tra ebrei e cristiani ma anche la loro trasformazione nel tempo. Quella esercitata indefessamente da Corcos, politico avveduto, intellettuale complesso, attratto dalla Kabbalah e dal sabbatianesimo, fu davvero un'"arte della mediazione" pur all'interno di una strenua difesa dell'identità ebraica. Siamo di fronte a un personaggio razionale e aperto e a uno sforzo di dialogo e di conciliazione che non impediva però il ricorso a più dure proteste e denunce rivolte agli stessi pontefici per difendere gli ebrei da preconcetti e accuse, come quella, temibilissima, di omicidio rituale.
