Hardcover. Condition: Good. Calder, Walter H. (Photographer) (illustrator). First Edition. Wonderful vintage photo montage of the British Columbia Normal (Teacher Training) School class of 1911-12 in Vancouver, British Columbia. Photos taken by Walter H. Calder. Montage, which measures 15.75" x 9.6", is mounted on a contemporary matte backing which measures 17" x 14". Moderate wear. Pencilled name on reverse, otherwise clean and unmarked. A wonderful piece of Vancouver and British Columbia history.
Mounted Photograph. Condition: Fine. An early Walter Calder team photo, carrying his 709 Georgia Street address (the studio formerly occupied by R.H. Trueman) which he operated from 1912 to 1920. Thus a circa 1913 image, as many of the young men in this fit looking group of athletes would likely have been off fighting in the first world war if 1914 or later. Also, it would be highly improbable that these young men would have been able to form a cohesive team so quickly postwar, as many Canadian soldiers were not discharged to return to their homes until 1919 - leaving sparse time until Calder's Georgia Street studio was closed sometime in 1920. A 7.75 x 9.5 inch wide, gelatin silver photograph, mounted onto a beveled, 12 x 14 inch wide photographer's mount, with his studio sticker affixed at lower right. Photo w. just minor mirroring, mount w. an insignificant bump at lower left corner, else a fine image of these young men, who proudly wear their marked singlet and sash team outfits. We note that the men's team shirts also carry markings of a single star, or a star with 1, 2, or 3 hash marks, perhaps indicating the athlete's ranking, or years served on the team.
