A photo album that depicts scenes from Frank Calderon's School of Animal Painting which was situated at 54 Baker Street from 1894 until 1911. He then built a new school in conjunction with his own house and studio in Kensington. A summer school took place at Headly Mill Farm, Midhurst where students could draw a variety of animals outside. The photographs include images of Calderon, his wife Ethel and the artist Lionel Edwards, who specialised in painting horses and scenes of country life, groups of students drawing in both London and Midhurst, fellow students (some of whom are named), children (possibly family members) at Versailles Road and other locations, the Roman Court at Crystal Palace, sculptures, Midhurst buildings, hay-making, numerous animals including cattle, pigs, horses, goats, dogs and sheep, Cornwall, Wareham in Dorset and sailing boats. Mounted photograph of cattle taken Nr. Budleigh, Salterton dated 1931 loosely inserted. The anonymous owner of the album does include one or two photographs that feature herself. William Frank Calderon (1865-1943) was a figure, landscape and sporting painter who taught Lionel Edwards, Cecil Aldin, Alfred Munnings, Lady Helena Gleichen, Frederic Whiting and George E. Studdy. He married the daughter of H. H. Armstead, sculptor and occasional illustrator. A few photographs faded, edges of pages a little worn, otherwise very good. Light wear otherwise very good.
