Featuring a bedouin tent in the background, as well as 2 bedouins sitting on the ground near the left side of the image. - Small scratch mark near the centre.

The seventy-seven petitioners were the promoters and subscribers of the Camel Troop Carrying Company, 'established in the Cit…y of Adelaide to facilitate the organized introduction of camels into South Australia . [We] are satisfied that the exploration of Australia will only be profitably accomplished by the employment of these animals'. A Government bonus of 20 pounds per head was sought on the proposed first importation of sixty head of the best breeds. South Australian Parliamentary Paper Number 86 of 1858.

Overall size of photocards is 4.7" x 3.5." In the first set of photos a woman carries a heavy load next to another woman resting on a rock with her child. Both women wear burqas. In… the photo below a fully veiled woman in a white burqa tenderly holds the hand of a little girl while covering part of her face with her hand. The second set of photos depicts Arab men saddling up their camels in preparation for a long journey. They secure their goods and belongings while a young boy stands watching. The lower photo captures two men unloading a resting camel from its long journey. A small mark to one of the photos and some spotting to one of the margins. Overall in good condition.
