De todas las artes marciales zen, las del kyudo (arco) y iai (sable), son quizá las más exigentes. Pero de todas las artes zen son las que despiertan mayor perplejidad en occi…dente. ¿Como conciliar un arte de combate con las sutilezas filosóficas? Puede parecer incomprensible y hasta absurdo, que el arte de armar un arco o desenvainar un sable pueda conducir al absoluto. Contrariamente a la ascesis, que libera el espíritu con menos precio del cuerpo, el kyudo y el iai exhortan a un esfuerzo paralelo de equilibrio y armonía. Cuando el discípulo del iai-do hace silencio sobre sí mismo, cuando calma su ser interior, siente poco a poco que concentra mejor su pensamiento, se siente invadido por la calma. La hoja surge de la vaina como una centella que desgarra el espacio. El arco es, escorzada, la fiel representación del universo, neutro y silencioso cual un portavoz de la Vía. Quien escoge el arco o el sable, debe saber que su cuerpo no es más que una herramienta, un vehículo que favorece la evolución de la mente. El blanco, representación del infinito, exige del discípulo que éste se imagine a sí mismo en un eje o sobre un punto localizado entre dos infinitos. Pero para que el arco y la flecha se unan al blanco, el discípulo debe proyectarse inversamente identificándose con un sitio preciso de la trayectoria. Este libro es un resumen de dos años de charlas y reflexiones entre Jacques Normand, especialista de kyudo y de iai y Jérome Camilly, escritor. Ambos han tratado de transmitir las experiencias de Normand en Japón, luego de sus cinco duros años de aprendizaje en la Vía.
