Edition originale, parue sans nom d'auteur, de cet ouvrage classique. Selon la justification, cette édition fut tirée à 500 exemplaires (350 exempl. sur papier de Hollande, 125 sur simili-Japon, 25 sur Japon impérial). Ces 37 sonnets humoristiques, qui eurent beaucoup de succès, ont pour thème des sujets de médecine variés (auscultation, massage, strabisme, calvitie, chlorose, ver solitaire, constipation, etc.). Ils sont joliment imprimés et accompagnés de deux eaux-fortes, dont une de Félicien Rops. Georges Camuset (1841-1885), né à Lons-le-Saunier, sujet brillant et doué pour les sciences et les arts, choisit la carrière médicale et s'orienta vers l'ophtalmologie. Il ouvrit un cabinet à Dijon et devint un praticien renommé, tout en ayant une vie mondaine active. Hahn & Dumaître, Histoire du livre médical, p. 365 : "Imprimés dans une belle typographie par Darantière, ces sonnets furent illustrés deaux-fortes par Félicien Rops dans le goût bien caractéristique de la fin du XIXe siècle." ; Vicaire, II, 38/39 ; Talvart & Place, II, 287.

A unique copy, containing 43 fine original watercolors in the margins by Emile Delphes Chabod comprising 29 in watercolor and 14 pen-and-wash drawings in bistre, with several signed by the artist. The illustrations range from the decorative and charming to the ribald and bawdy, reflecting the nature of a number of the sonnets: Massage, Maladies Secretes, Preservatifs, Bonbon Laxatif and Constipation and several with sexual and gastronomic themes.
