Edition revue et corrigée de ce recueil de réflexions historiques, politiques et morales, inspirées ā l'auteur par des événements et personnages du temps. Originaire de Gęnes, Lorenzo Capelloni (c.1510-c.1590) avait côtoyé le célčbre amiral Andrea Doria (1468-1560), grand marin et puissant meneur d'hommes dont il écrivit la premičre biographie en 1565. Cette circonstance contribua sans doute ā lui inspirer le présent ouvrage, initialement publié en italien en 1576. Les nombreux événements rapportés ici concernent souvent l'histoire de Gęnes, et plusieurs d'entre eux concernent l'établissement des génois en Afrique et au Moyen-Orient. Le dernier chapitre évoque la découverte de l'Amérique dont l'auteur affirme notamment qu'elle avait des effets négatifs sur les économies européennes, par l'apport massif d'or et d'argent. Le titre s'inscrit dans un bel encadrement allégorique gravé sur bois par Giovanni Bianco. Quelques rousseurs et traces de mouillures marginales.

Legatura coeva in pergamena floscia, titolo manoscritto al dorso. Seconda edizione, molto pių rara della prima del 1565, di questo trattato encomiastico, una sorta di panegirico, dedicato ad Andrea Doria. I due ritratti raffigurano Andrea Doria sia come cittadino e padre della patria (con veste e berretta) sia come capitano e vincitore di battaglie (loricato e laureato). Il Capelloni (1510-1590) fu storico al servizio della famiglia Doria. "Il Fontanini e dietro di lui l'Haym, tacendo della prima del 1565, citarono questa seconda edizione, che per essere senza paragone pių rara, quasi mai si incontra nei cataloghi" (Annali Giolito, II 287). Andrea Doria (1466 - 1560), condottiero, politico e ammiraglio, ebbe una vita straordinariamente lunga e densa di significativi fatti storici a cavallo tra il Quattrocento e il Cinquecento italiano.
