Hardback in blue cloth, with (faded) gilt titling to spine and blind-stamped titling to upper board. 19.5 × 12.5cm, 232pp, with map at the front endpaper. This copy was owned by W P D'Arcy Dalton, with his handwritten ownership name to the ffep from Lincoln College, Oxford. Wytton Perowne D'Arcy Dalton was best known for his work in identifying, mapping, and defending public footpaths and rights-of-way across Oxfordshire. A rare Great War novel, in which a young British soldier, John Harland, fights in France in 1914, witnessing the death and destruction caused by the conflict, and the impact it has on human relationships. The author, Cecil Alexander Little Brownlow fought in the Great War, serving in the Royal Field Artillery and was awarded the DSO in 1917. He stayed in the Army and retired in 1946 with the honorary rank of Brigadier. Condition: A good copy. There is rubbing to the edges of the blue cloth and corners, and tanning to the spine. Light spotted foxing to the pages throughout but otherwise remaining in strong readable condition.
