As the editions of 1623 and 1629, this third output is dedicated to Pierre Brûlart, Viscount of Puysieux (1583-1640), Secretary of state and Grand Treasurer, who was the son of the chancellor Nicolas Brûlart de Sillery and had negotiated the divorce and remarriage of King Henri IV with Marie de Medici. Jacques Davy du Perron (1556-1618) spent his youth in Switzerland where S'were refugees his parents Calvinists. In 1576, he came to Paris where on the advice of the poet Philippe Desportes, and obtained the place of reader of Henri III, which enabled him a free course of study and poetry. At the death of the last Valois, he was noticed by Henri IV, who gave him the bishopric of Évreux. Close to the new king, he used this influence, and in 1595, he obtained, assisted by the Abbot Arnaud d'Ossat, his absolution from Pope Clement VIII. Consecrated bishop in Rome, he began preaching and provoked many conversions. 1316 pages and a table of letters and negotiations. Insured post. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.

The cardinal agrees with Condé's intentions but urges him to reconcile with the court because his separation only serves to cast a shadow on Condé himself instead of on the government. In-folio (35 x 22 cm) reliure plein veau sombre du temps, dos restauré en basane brune à nerfs décoré de filets, fleurons et titres dorés, double filets sur les plats, 4 f., 231 p., 12 f. n. ch. (table). Trois feuillets avec des restaurations anciennes ; large auréole sur 2 feuillets et petite auréole en marge sur 2 feuillets. Antoine Estienne (Genève 1594 - Paris 1674) fils de Paul, imprimeur Français, dernier imprimeur d'une lignée qui en compta cinq (dont le plus célèbre - Robert Estienne son arrière-grand-père - qui fut également humaniste). Antoine poursuit des études à Lyon, avant de se rendre à Paris à l'âge de dix-huit ans. Il embrasse la religion catholique et obtient en 1614 le titre d'imprimeur du roi et du clergé. Le cardinal Du Perron, son protecteur, lui fait accorder une pension de 500 livres qu'il cesse de percevoir dès la mort du prélat. Il réimprime pour la société des libraires de Paris les Pères grecs, et publie d'autres ouvrages importants, tels que la Bible de Morin, l'Aristote de Duval, Strabon, Xénophon, Plutarque, etc. Antoine, devenu infirme et aveugle, se voit obligé de solliciter une place à l'Hôtel-Dieu de Paris, où il meurt en 1674, à l'âge de 80 ans. Le présent ouvrage présente en page de titre la fameuse marque d'imprimeur de son arrière grand-père (homme sous un olivier portant la devise "Noli altum sapere"). Robert, fut contrait de s'exiler à Genève pour ses convictions religieuses, mal considérées par la Sorbonne. Son arrière petit-fils se converti lui au catholicisme et imprima des textes de propagande catholique comme le présent ouvrage.

Il fut envoyé à Rome, puis nommé archevêque de Sens. /S22-23 Coiffes absentes, nerfs frottés, mors fendus et coins émoussés, la reliure reste solide ; l'intérieur est correct malgré un papier un peu bruni et quelques trous de vers.
