Exterior shows some spotting and soiling, spine is darkened. Internal binding is good and text pages are tight. Paper is toned due to age and some minor spotting/spotting is present. There is what appears to be a dampstain present on the top exterior page textblock. This is the side that is dyed red. This may have also been caused when the book was created as the red dye can just barely be seen on the top edge of most of the pages. This is a limited edition, limited to 400 copies of which this is number 18. No signatures or bookplates present, no handwriting, no library markings found.

Carpenter was an active B&C club member and helped edit their 1939 record book. All three of his books were privately printed in limited editions, this one only 400 copies.Big sheep and bigger grizzlies. The area he hunted in Alaska is the area formerly operated by Lynn Castle. A Vg copy. The light green cloth the book is bound in is seldom found in nice condition as it soiled very easily. Contents fine and signed by author.

Patterned brown flexible leather with cover titles in gilt; 12mo; 34pp; illustrated with frontispiece map plus 10 full-page captioned b/w photo plates; sewn-in ribbon book mark. Text finely printed on pressed rice paper, unopened along top edge. The story of Carpenter's 1936 safari to Africa where he hunted lion, buffalo and rhinoceros. Donald Ker and Sydney Downey were the professional hunters he employed. Carpenter worked for DuPont, helping develop fabrikoid, an artificial leather, which is perhaps the binding choice here. This copy is in near fine, collectible condition, bearing an uncommon signed presentation to a friend on the verso of frontispiece.

As a director of the Philadelphia Academy of Natural Sciences he went on many trips to Africa to collect big game animals for the museum's dioramas. Game Trails from Alaska to Africa covers Carpenter's hunting trips from 1933 to 1938. He includes hunting Pronghorn in Wyoming, Mountain Lion in Arizona, mountain goats in British Columbia, and Jaguar in Mexico, as well as big game in Africa. Excellent narrative; rather scarce.
