Paperback. Condition: Good. First Edition. Carroll Reece led the famous Special Committee To Investigate Tax Exempt Foundations. The Director of Research for this Committee was the intrepid Norman Dodd who conducted his work between 1953 and 1954. To begin his speech, Mr. Reece states "It is with considerable reluctance that I make these remarks, but I feel compelled to do so. So many persons from all over tthe country have written me about the behavior of Dr. Robert M. Hutchins' giveaway program in behalf of so-called civil rights that I must make some kind of a public statement on the matter." - page 3. "Robert Hutchins became president of a Ford Foundation spinoff devoted to civil liberties, the Fund For The Republic, in 1954." - Wikipedia. Reece goes on to discuss at length the cases of J. Robert Oppenheimer, Mary Knowles, and the Mundt Bill - and their connections to the Ford Fund For The Republic. 13 stapled pages. 9" x 6". Intact and unmarked with average wear. A sound example of this fascinating exposé. ; 8vo.

Hardcover. Condition: Fair. Dust Jacket Condition: No Dust Jacket. First Edition. "A searching analysis of some of America's most powerful tax-exempt foundations, their actions as opposed to their stated purposes, the interlocking groups of men who run them, and their influence on the country at large. The author, as counsel to the Reece Committee which investigated foundations for the last Republican Congress, gained a unique insight into the inner workings of the various Rockefeller, Carnegie and Ford-created giants. He also witnessed the intense and powerful opposition to any investigation of these multibillion-dollar public trusts." - front flap. "Contributes the philosophical and juridical reflections of this distinguished lawyer, based upon the material our committee disclosed and upon other data which have appeared since the closing of our inquiry. Wormser discusses problems of foundation administration and control which are grave indeed and has rendered a great service in preparing this sober and thoughtful work." - Preface. "A tremendously scholarly work. Not only demands importance due to its strict adherence to truthful and factual documentation, but is absolutely essential for understanding why American society is in the shape it is in politically, as well as economically." - online review by A.M. Robbins. "Packed with information on foundations and the effect they've had on our political policies and education system as well as medicine and the media. It is startling to understand how socialism has silently been pushed on us through the money of these foundations. This book was written in 1958 and it is easy to see in 2020 how they are accomplishing their goal of turning the United States into a socialist nation." - online review. xx, 412 pp. Index. Former JBS library copy with a few related markings. Dust jacket flaps and back panel affixed inside book. Front hinge weak but holding. Narrow opening in binding at page 410. Not pretty but a worthy first edition reading copy of this important and enduring work. ; 8vo.
