Original cloth over stiff wrappers, stamped "American Medical Association - Washington 1858" on front. Light wear at edges. Ex-library, withdrawn, with a fairly heavy hand with the library's rubber stamp. [2], 120 pp., folding map of Washington. This is a scarce edition of a popular Washington guidebook, clearly distributed to attendees of the American Medical Association gathering in Washington in May, 1858. Laid in at the back are the one-page Programme of events for the delegates, a card identifying the delegate James O. Pond from New York and a letter of introduction for Dr. Pond to Congressman RIchard Mott. The Programme has a reference to this guidebook. Also included are six invitations on calling cards (1 duplicate) for receptions coincident with the convention. These invitations include one to a reception held by Sen. Stephen A. Douglas. There is also a prefatory leaf which contains the name of the Committee of Arrangements Appointed by the Association, confirming that this issue of Bohn's guide was published specifically for this AMA meeting. AAS 437451 lists an 1858 issue of this guide, designated as the fourth edition, with some illustrations called for. This copy has no designation of an edition and no illustrations beyond the map.
