L'opera in due volumi presenta il panorama architettonico privato, civile e religioso del Belgio a cavallo della metà del XIX secolo attraverso 240 planches incise di progetti, facciate, elementi decorativi, sull'onda del diffondersi dell'eclettismo tipico dell'epoca. Il primo volume aveva già visto una prima edizione presso l'editore Noblet di Liegi nel 1856. Raro Numero di tavole: 240 pp.(10),120 pl.; (6), 120 pl. altezza 50 larghezza 34 Opera in due volumi. Legatura in mezza pelle e piatti marmorizzati con titoli e fregi in oro al dorso a 5 nervi: spelature con evidenti mancanze al rivestimento in pelle ai dorsi, in particolare lungo le cerniere e alle cuffie; tracce di polvere e spelature ai piatti, specialmente ai margini e agli angoli che risultano ammaccati. Tracce di polvere ai tagli. Carte ben conservate con diffuse ed evidenti fioriture distribuite in modo discontinuo in entrambi i volumi; le planches 4 e 32 del I vol e 67 del II sono particolarmente brunite.

Complete. Uniform red half morocco, bindings with shelf wear, corners bumped, headcaps damaged, some of the marbled paper of the boards torn or missing. Interiors with light foxing spots, minor water stain in lower margin of second volume. Still an acceptable copy. The book gives architectural plates of work by Dumont, Cluysenaar, Demany, Dens, Balat, Thirion, Beyaert, Saintenoy, Umé & Casterman himself, and others. In volume II important illustrations are made of the new prisons built in Louvain (Leuven) and Hasselt. This a rare and important survey of Belgian mid 19th-century architecture. Second edition for volume I. (A first edition of volume I , with 120 plates, was published by Noblet in Liège (around 1856) . We presume, but could not check, that volume I of our copy is a reprint made of the original plates of the first edition.
