C'était la panacée que l'on appliquait à toutes sortes de maladies. Elle était aussi censée posséder des vertus admirables pour la vieillesse. On l'utilisait aussi comme contrepoison. Les recettes différaient selon les régions, mais celle de Montpellier qui contenait 83 ingrédients, choisis et préparés avec soin, était l'une des plus réputées. Catelan contribua à la renommée de la thériaque en réalisant des séances publiques lors desquelles il préparait et expliquait les bienfaits de ce remède. La Thériaque comportait dans sa composition quatre groupes de poudres : - Un premier groupe de poudre expectorantes et purgatives - Un second groupe de fortifiants - Un troisième groupe des aliments - Dans le quatrième groupe entraient 17 composants dont le plus efficace était l'opium Cet ouvrage reprend le contenu des 15 conférences sur la préparation de la thériaque de Montpellier données par Catelan (1568-1647), apothicaire de la faculté. ___________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________ENGLISH_DESCRIPTION : Contemporary full limp vellum, a little soiled. 8vo (170x110 mm), (8)-331-(6) pages. It was the panacea that is applied to all kinds of diseases. It was also supposed to possess admirable virtues to extend life. It was also used as against poison. There were many different receipt of theriac, but that of Montpellier, which contained 83 ingredients, selected and prepared with care, was one of the most famous. Catelan contributed to the reputation of the Theriac by conducting public meetings where he prepared and explained the benefits of this remedy. Theriac is composed of four groups of powders : - A first group of expectorant, purgative and expectorant powder - A second group of tonics - A third group of foods - In the fourth group came 17 components, the most effective was opium This book presents the content of the 15 conferences on the preparation of the Theriac of Montpellier given by Catelan. 210g.
